Betty J. Conti

Brookfield woman was Ohio LCB store manager


- — A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday for Betty J. Conti of Brookfield. She passed away at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 84.

Mrs. Conti was born June 17, 1929, in Sharon, a daughter of David C. and Esther Dunlap Thomas.

She was a 1947 alumna of Brookfield High School. Following her graduation, she married her sweetheart, Fred A. “Smokey” Conti on Oct. 30, 1948. Together they went on to share more than 49 years of marriage and their three children, Fred, James and Patricia.

Mrs. Conti retired from the Ohio State Liquor Control Board after working as a store manager for 20 years.

She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, St. Bernadette’s Church, Masury, and had also been a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, Facebooking and working on her computer.

Betty is survived by: her beloved children, Fred D. “Smokey” Conti, Bear, Del.; James L. Conti, Sanibel Island, Fla.; and Patricia Sok and her husband Robert, Erie; four grandchildren, Rob Sok and his wife Lisa, Chesapeake, Va.; Jim Sok and his fiancée Amy Johnson, Jacksonville, Fla.; Mike Sok, Ponte Vedra, Fla..; and Emily Chianelli and her husband Rob, Virginia Beach, Va.; and two great-granddaughters, Olivia Rose Chianelli; and Natalie Marie Chianelli, who is to arrive in MayDala Barrow 1/9/14 ; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred, Dec. 15, 1997; and her brother, William Thomas.

As an expression of sympathy, the family requests that each of you “pay it forward for Betty.” Do at least one simple thing this week or longer with the comment, “paying it forward for Betty.” Open a door, buy a cup of coffee, pay a toll for the person behind you or make a contribution to the American Cancer Society.

Service: Closing prayers at 8:45 a.m. Monday (1-13-14) in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Community, St. Bernadette’s Church, Masury, with the Rev. Frank Zanni, V.F., as celebrant.

Interment: Brookfield Township Cemetery.
