Mr. Auchter was born July 16, 1940, in Sharon to Burdell W. and Rebecca A. Alexander Auchter.

He was a 1958 graduate of Sharpsville High School and had served in the Navy as an electrician aboard the U.S.S. Glennon from 1963 to 1965.

Mr. Auchter had been employed for more than 40 years as a signalman with Conrail at the Greenville Depot, retiring in 2002.

On Sept. 15, 1969, Dan became a member of Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 276, Greenville, and became immediately active, rising to the position of lodge governor in 1976. He served as lodge administrator from 1985 to 1993 and again from 1998 to 2003. Recently, Dan served another term as lodge governor in 2012 and was currently serving as a junior past governor.

He was a member of the Moose 25 Club-50 Division with 65 sponsor credits.

During his 44 years of service to the club, he served as a committee chairman for various lodge committees and remained active his entire Moose career. He served as a district officer for several years in the 1980s.  He was a life member of Shenango Valley Moose Legion 88, joining in 1975 and serving as president of the Legion during the 1987-88 term. Dan could often be seen working in the lodge and assisting at many lodge functions and social events.

He was an avid bowler and golfer and had served as secretary of the Moose bowling league for several decades. He was a member of the Moose dart team and, for several years, was instrumental in getting the lodge involved in local dart leagues.

In recognition for his many years of service to the fraternity, Brother Auchter was presented the Fellowship Degree of Honor in 1980. In 2001, he was awarded the highest degree of the fraternity, the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. A portrait of Dan hangs in the lodge as a tribute to his many years of service and dedication to the fraternity that he loved so well.

Dan was a member of American Legion Post 140, Greenville; and the Western Pennsylvania Dart Association.

His other interests included hunting, camping, gardening, cooking and spending time with family. He was a true animal lover, and especially loved his three cats.
