A funeral service will be held Wednesday for John “Jack” R. “Pizza” Marrie of South Mercer Avenue, Sharpsville. He passed away peacefully at 12:27 p.m. Saturday (4-20-13) in UPMC Horizon, Farrell, after a brief illness. He was 70.
Mr. Marrie was born April 30, 1942, in Sharon, a son of John Edward Marrie and Edith King Marrie.
A lifelong area resident, he graduated in 1960 from Sharpsville High School.
He worked at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant in its cold roll division, Farrell, and later gained employment at the same site with Duferco Steel Corp.
Mr. Marrie served his country as an Army Reservist and received his honorable discharge Jan. 15, 1970.
He was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church, Sharpsville.
Jack and his wife, Patricia, enjoyed traveling to their favorite destinations, including Maine and, most recently, Yellowstone National Park and historic Mount Rushmore.
He was a member of American Legion Post 162 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6404, both Sharpsville.
He enjoyed crossword puzzles and cheering for his Pittsburgh Steelers.
Jack will always be remembered as an interesting person in conversation, handy with all things needing fixed and one who could tell a great story; he will be sadly missed by all.
He is survived by: his wife, Patricia Ann Pears Marrie, whom he married June 9, 2004, at home; his mother, Edith Marrie; his daughter, Jodi L. Schuller and her husband Marty; his son, John F. Marrie, all South Pymatuning Township; a stepdaughter, Danielle D. Marrie, Sharpsville; two stepsons, John Vannoy and his wife Debra, Sharon; and Joshua Gurrera and his wife Kathy, Liberty Township, Trumbull County; and his brother, James E. Marrie and his wife Charlotte, Sharpsville.
He also leaves his loving grandchildren, Mathew and Michael Vannoy; Elizabeth and Ian Marrie; Jaclyn and Jessica Winters; Trevor Schuller; and Caleb and Cora Ann Gurrera; his great-grandson, Landen Hassel; a niece, Cindy Bosman; his nephew, Michael Marrie; and his great-niece and -nephew, Rachel and Liam.
His father, John E. Marrie, preceded him in death.
