Richard L. Mowery, 1209 Brentwood Drive, Pymatuning Township, died at 7:15 a.m. Saturday (5-25-13) in White Cliff Nursing Home, Hempfield Township, after an extended illness. He was 73.
He was born March 6, 1940, in Greenville, to Howard E. and Lois L. (Malson) Mowery. He married Patricia J. Gilson on June 3, 1961. She survives at home.
He was a 1958 graduate of Penn High School and was a 2000 graduate of the Winner Institute of Culinary Arts, Transfer.
For 40 years he worked as a machinist at the former Trinity Industries, Greenville Railcar Division.
After Trinity closed, he worked as a cook for the priests of St. Joseph and Sacred Heart churches, Sharon.
He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Greenville.
An avid motorcyclist, he was a member of Chapter N Gold Wing Road Riders Association, and had served as the chapter director and assistant state director of the Pennsylvania Road Riders Association.
He and his wife had ridden more than 60,000 miles together throughout the U.S. and Canada.
His other interests included hunting, fishing and camping with his children and grandchildren.
He is survived by a daughter, Dianne L. Amon and her husband Richard of Greenville; a son, Roger B. Mowery and his wife Colleen of Sharpsville; a brother, William Mowery and his wife Judy of Albany, Ore.; and five grandchildren, Samantha Amon, Jessica Amon, Matthew Amon, Kristen Mowery and Dustin Mowery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Carolyn Mitchell.
