Agnes Marie McKinnon Cochran

Elections worker created window displays


- — Surrounded by her family, Agnes Marie McKinnon Cochran, a longtime resident of Sharon, passed away Saturday, Dec. 14, 2013, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System at the age of 92.

Mrs. Cochran was born April 9, 1921, in Greensburg, Pa., to Wilfred John “Boots” McKinnon and Margaret Agnes Fagen McKinnon.

In her youth, Marie enjoyed working at Helen Freed’s Dress Shop as a window display decorator and salesperson, as well as at Snelling and Snelling, both in Sharon. Marie also worked at the election polls yearly.

She met her husband, Claude Edward “Ted” Cochran, on a blind date and married shortly thereafter. He passed on March 21, 1977, his birthday.

Until recently, she was a resident of Riverview Manor in Sharon. Following an illness, Marie moved to Nugent Convalescent Home in Hermitage.

Besides her husband, Ted, Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Candace Marie Cochran Altiere; and grandson, Mark Edward Lenzi, Olympic Diving gold and silver medalist. Mark passed on Marie’s birthday, April 9, 2012.

Survivors include: two daughters, Margaret Ann Cochran, Franklin; and Merry Ellen Lenzi, Fredericksburg, Va.; a son, Terrance Edward Cochran and his wife Sandy, in Texas; seven grandchildren, Terri Lee Cochran Snyder, Texas; William T. Lenzi and his wife Katherine, King George, Va.; Lisa Iden and her husband Jack, and Luke Lenzi and his wife Ashley, all Bumpass, Va.; Jack Altiere and his wife Kristen, Medina, Ohio; and Jessica Pastore and her husband George, and Joe Altiere, all Sharon; and 12 great-grandchildren, Damon Cochran and Addison Lee Snyder, both Texas; Cristal and Hunter Iden, Christopher and Regan Lenzi, and Elizabeth Lenzi, all Virginia; Amanda, Andrew and Addison Altiere, all Medina; and John Altiere, Matthew Pastore and Dylan Altiere, all Sharon.

In addition, she also has four grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren, all in Texas.

Marie had many good friends including Michelene McCartney, Lucille Thompson, Martha Bobby, Marie Schultz and Terri McCall, to name a few.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, at a later date.
