Margie L. Monteson

Nurse aide worked 30 years at Korner Market

- — Margie L. Monteson of Hermitage passed away peacefully at 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, in her home, with her loving family at her side, after a six-month illness. She was 84.

Mrs. Monteson was born Nov. 10, 1929, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Henry and Margaret Anna Schreckenghost Hardin.

She moved to the area as a child and attended Sharon High School.

Margie was employed for 30 years at the former Uptown Korner Market in Sharon and retired in 1985. She then worked as a nurse’s aide at the Shenango Inn, Sharon, and O’Brien Memorial Nursing Home, Masury. She also provided in-home care for patients.

Having recently been baptized, she was of the Protestant faith.

Margie was a hard worker and provided loving care to her family, particularly her grandchildren.

She was a great cook and enjoyed swimming, dancing, music, watching old movies and going to rummage and garage sales on Saturday mornings. She also liked to play bingo and go to casinos during her retirement.

An animal lover, she raised and bred poodles for many years and was very attached to her beloved Doberman, Greta.

She will be remembered by many for her wonderful sense of humor and generosity.

Surviving are: her husband at home, Robert “Bob” Monteson, whom she married Feb. 14, 1959, in Our Lady of Fatima Church, Farrell; five children, Laura Monteson, at home; Robert “Bobby” Monteson Jr. and his wife Pamela, New Castle; Audrey Ordonez and her husband Roberto, Wheatland; Lisa George and her husband Jay, Sharon; and Janice Neider and her husband Rick, Hermitage; 11 grandchildren whom she adored, Michael and Melissa Monteson; Gabrielle, April and Natalie Ordonez; Margo, Anthony and Christopher George; and Nicole, Jennifer and Ricky Neider; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Ordonez.

She also leaves a sister, the Rev. Hazel Fitzgerald, Sharon; a brother, Henry Hardin and his wife Lulu, also Sharon; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Greta.

Margie was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Edith Brooker; and two brothers, Charles and Chester Miller.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Sharon Regional Hospice and Palliative Care, 2320 Highland Road, Hermitage, PA 16148.
