Anna Mae Whalen Munson

St. Stan’s-Holy Trinity member was homemaker


- — Anna Mae Whalen Munson of Hermitage, formerly of Sharon-New Castle Road, Farrell, passed away at 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, in her residence, with her loving family at her side, after an extended illness. She was 77.

Mrs. Munson was born Feb. 14, 1936, in Sharon, a daughter of Joseph Patrick Whalen and Hazel Mary King Whalen.

She was a lifelong area resident and a 1954 graduate of Sharon High School.

Prior to her marriage, Anna was employed by Delphi Packard Electric Corp., Warren, Ohio, and the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Stanislaus Kostka-Holy Trinity Church, Sharon.

Anna was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Shenango Valley Post 1338, and at one time enjoyed bowling at Thornton Hall Lanes, both Sharon.

Surviving are: two daughters, Kimberly E. Blackburn and her husband Cecil, Sharon; and Jacqueline L. Ehrhart and her husband Richard, Hermitage; three sons, Robert J. Munson Jr. and his wife Ann, Sharon; Kevin M. Munson, Masury; and Timothy P. Munson and his fiancée Shelly Rosa, Transfer; 16 grandchildren, Christian O’Brien and his wife Naomi, Kelley Blackburn and her fiancé Chris Woods, Elizabeth McHenry, Greg Ehrhart and his wife Joni, Sean Munson and his companion Megan, Joshua Munson and his companion April, Shannon Munson and her companion Tim; Ashley, Sydney, Briannia, Summer, Rayna, April and Chase Munson; and Logan Rosa and Savanna Moore and her husband Richard; 11 great-grandchildren, Keegan Blackburn, Keela and Leica O’Brien, Liam and Olivia McHenry, Aiden Ehrhart; Kayla, Jade and Trenton Munson; and Kendra and Makayla Moore.

She also leaves a brother-in-law, Joseph Hilinski, Parma, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Helen Whalen, Sharpsville; and several nieces and nephews.

Anna was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Eileen Whalen and Mary Ellen Hilinski; seven brothers, Joseph, John, Robert, Jimmy, Patrick Whalen; and Billy and Eugene Whalen, who died in infancy; her husband, Robert J. Munson Sr.; and two grandsons, Jacob Thomas Munson and Torrey James Keeley.

The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to Family Hospice and Palliative Care for their compassion and care; and McGonigle Ambulance Services “guys in ties” for the numerous lift assists and many trips to the hospital.

Just as the day she was born, Valentine’s Day, her heart was as big and loving as the day itself. We are going to miss you so much.

Interment: St. Mary’s Cemetery, Hermitage.
