William F. ‘Bill’ Kimes

Sandy Lake man worked at WE, served church, Scouts

- — William F. “Bill” Kimes of Sandy Lake passed away peacefully at 12:25 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a brief illness. He was 84.

Born June 2, 1929, in Grove City, Mr. Kimes was a son of Earl W. and Gladys A. Mouck Kimes.

He was a 1947 graduate of the former Sandy Lake High School.

Mr. Kimes worked for more than 38 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and then for five years in the parts department of the former Kimes Chevrolet-Buick, Grove City.

As an active member of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, he served as an elder and deacon, and was involved with many projects at the church.

Bill was a woodworker and enjoyed building and remodeling. He also loved nature and the outdoors, especially his many hunting trips out west, fishing trips to Canada and vacationing at the Outer Banks in North Carolina.

For many years, he served as the Scoutmaster for Boy Scout Troop 86, Sandy Lake. He loved landscaping and taking care of his yard.

He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lake Lodge 434, Sandy Lake; and Scottish Rite’s New Castle Consistory.

His wife of more than 61 years, the former Gladys E. Burdette, whom he married in July 5, 1952, in Curwensville, Pa., survives at home. Also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews and a great-great-nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister and her husband, Lois and Judd Gilliland; a brother and his wife, Bruce W. and Doris “Dot” Kimes; a sister-in-law, Faye Burdette; and brothers-in-law, Clair Bruce and Harold Burdette.

Memorial contributions may be made in Bill’s memory to Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, Box 185, Sandy Lake, PA 16145.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday (1-11-14) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro, with a Masonic service at 8 p.m.

Service: Funeral and committal service at 2 p.m. Sunday (1-12-14) in the funeral home with the Rev. Beth Creekpaum, pastor of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment: Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
