Korean War vet worked in local auto body shops

- — A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday for Michael A. Buzzeo of Hermitage, formerly of Farrell. He was called to his eternal reward unexpectedly at 8:22 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013, in Cuyahoga Falls (Ohio) General Hospital, after a brief illness. He was 84.

Mr. Buzzeo was born Aug. 30, 1929, in Farrell, a son of Carlo and Michelina DePreta Buzzeo.

A lifelong area resident, he was a 1947 graduate of Farrell High School and served with the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict aboard the USS Helena and the USS Kearasage.

Mike had a very strong work ethic and was an auto body specialist for nearly 60 years. He retired from Sharon Auto Body after more than 40 years of service and later worked for Ivan’s Auto Body. During his retirement years, he was a transport assistant for NU Choice of Hermitage.

Mike was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann Church, Farrell.

He was proud of his Italian heritage and a member of the Italian Home in Farrell. He was also a member of the Wednesday evening bowling league at Thornton Hall Lanes in Sharon and enjoyed sports, dancing and music.

Mike treasured the time with his family and loved to attend his children’s and grandsons’ scholastic and athletic events.

He will be remembered by many as a jack-of-all-trades and for the countless projects in which he assisted his family and friends.

A devoted husband, he married the former Eva M. Fabrey on Sept. 26, 1953, in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon.

Surviving are: his wife at home; a daughter, Carol Foltz and her husband Thomas, Gibsonville, N.C.; a son, Bob Buzzeo and his wife Lisa, Stow, Ohio; and two grandsons, whom he adored, Bobby and Blake Buzzeo. He also leaves a brother, Patsy Buzzeo, Hermitage; a sister-in-law, Lucy Buzzeo, Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Anna Fanone, Mary Varricchio and Maria Buzzeo, who died in infancy; and three brothers, Dan, Joseph and William Buzzeo.
