Nancy E. McCullough

Former Sales clerk, PTA leader was active in GOP women

— Nancy E. McCullough of Sharpsville, formerly of Hermitage, passed away at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, 2013, in Trinity Living Center, Grove City. She was 78.

Mrs. McCullough was born Sept. 3, 1934, in Youngstown to Robert V. Davis and Gertrude Leottie Davis.

Nancy graduated from Sharon High School in 1954 and attended Youngstown State University.

She worked as a sales clerk for several local stores in the valley.

Nancy was a member of New Virginia United Methodist Church, Hermitage, where she formerly taught Bible school.

Mrs. McCullough was a former member and past president of the Republican Women of Mercer County and Parent Teacher Association of Mercer County; a past member of Hickory schools’ PTA; and was formerly very active in the American Heart Association and Hermitage Little League, where she ran its concession stand.

She was a former member of the New Virginia Old Home Day Association and volunteered with the Sharon Regional Lobby Shop, where she received an award for volunteering more than 1,000 hours.

She also enjoyed bowling and was a member of a women’s bowling league at Hickory Bowl, Hermitage.

Her husband, Melvin R. McCullough, whom she married June 4, 1955, survives at home.

Also surviving are a son, Alan R. McCullough and his wife Donna, New Wilmington; a sister, Peggy Whitacre and her husband George, Youngstown; three brothers, Merle Davis and his wife Marion, Sharon; Thomas Davis and his wife Marian, Florida; and Clement Davis and his wife Carol, Warren, Ohio; and two grandsons, Tyler and Ian McCullough.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Diane Samoros.

Service: Funeral service at 7 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Mark E. Goswick, pastor of New Virginia United Methodist Church, Hermitage, officiating.

Burial: Cremation will follow the services.
