Dorothy M. Cook

Sheakleyville church member was retired nurse


---- — Dorothy M. Cook, Coolspring Township, passed away at 12:20 a.m. Sunday (8-18-13) in Avalon Springs Nursing Center, where she had been a resident. She was 84.

She was born Sept. 8, 1928, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Elmer Jacob and Charlotte (Rockhill) Sindlinger.  

On July 24, 1941, she married George E. Cook, who preceded her in death on Jan. 29, 1988.  

Dorothy had been employed at the former Meadville City Hospital, now Meadville Medical Center, in the nursing field and retired after 35 years of service.

She was a member of Sheakleyville United Methodist Church.  

Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, embroidering and playing the piano.

She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca Heckman and her husband Norman, Hadley; three sons, David G. Cook and his wife Linda, Mercer; Edward E. Cook and his wife Sherry, Fayette, Ohio; and Richard B. Cook, Cleveland; a brother, Elmer E. Sindlinger, Hadley; and eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Marjorie J. Henry.

The family has suggested that memorial tributes may be made to the Sheakleyville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 187, Sheakleyville, Pa. 16151.

Interment: With committal service in Hadley Cemetery.
