Laura ‘Laurie’ M. Croy

Active in community, crafter worked in S. Rock

-----

---- — Laura “Laurie” M. Croy of Harrisville passed away early Saturday morning, Aug. 24, 2013, in UPMC Northwest, Seneca, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 52.

Born Aug. 19, 1961, in Clarion, Mrs. Croy was a daughter of Robert E. Buechner and Donna Whitmer Buechner.

Laura graduated from Oil City High School and continued her education through the Job Corps, learning the trade of carpenter.

She married Steven E. Croy on March 29, 1988; he survives, along with their daughter, Katie Croy, both Harrisville.

Laura worked for Key Point Government Services out of Slippery Rock as a management assistant.

Laura had an eye for turning things that others were going to throw away into beautiful keepsakes. She was very skilled in crafts and loved to scrapbook. She preferred to be outside, whether it was fishing with her family or taking a mule ride with Steve and her dog, Sophie. She loved her flower beds with all of their beautiful colors and all the different kinds of flowers she grew.

Laura took time in her day to read from her Bible. Her favorite motto was, “Never Give Up,” and she lived her life with that in mind.

Laura was active in her community as a member of the Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, Clintonville Lions Club and Clintonville Ladies Auxiliary. She served her community with countless numbers of volunteer hours when her health allowed. She also volunteered at Washington Elementary School, Moniteau School District, as a teacher’s aide from 1995 until 2002.

In addition to her husband and daughter, Laura is survived by her mother, Donna Henry, Clintonville; her father-in-law, Harry Croy, Harrisville; her brothers, R. Edward Buechner, Florida; and Jeffery S. Buechner and his wife Sally A., Oil City; a sister, Doris G. Dinger and her husband James I., New Galilee; and her aunts, Jessie D. Bryant, Shippenville; Peg Kerns, Tionesta; and Betty Putnam, Ohio.

Also surviving are her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Harry D. Croy and his wife Donna, Grove City; Bonnie L. Thompson and her husband Earl “Bud” Thompson, Grove City; Rick A. Croy and his wife Brenda, Harrisville; Ron I. Croy and his wife Ella, Brookville; and Randy L. Croy and his wife Julie, Harrisville.

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

She was preceded in death by her father; her mother-in-law, Freda Croy; and her stepfather, Gary L. Henry.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Laura’s memory to Clintonville Lions Club, Box 303, Clintonville PA 16372.
