Betty L. Maurer

County Home worker was caregiver, active in church


---- — Betty L. Maurer, Jefferson Township, formerly of Fredonia, passed away at 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, 2013, in Countryside Convalescent Home, East Lackawannock Township, following a period of declining health. She was 85.

Mrs. Maurer was born in Midland, Md., on March 28, 1928, a daughter of John and Isabelle (Rae) Seib.

She was employed by the former Mercer County Home and the Pastry Shoppe, Greenville.

Throughout her life she was to care for people and to be a caregiver to her family and friends.

She was a member of Fredonia United Methodist Church.  She actively participated in the activities of Fredonia Presbyterian Church.  

Betty is survived by a daughter, Dorothy Kalch-thaler and her husband Paul, Greenville; two sons, Carl E. Maurer and his wife DeAnn; and Greg Maurer and his fiancé Esther Davenport, all Fredonia; a sister, Patricia Martin, Frostburg, Md.; and a brother, Fred Seib and his wife Ramona, Cumberland, Md.; six grandchildren, Karla Stanton, Adam Maurer and his wife Jen, Mark Maurer and his wife Heather, Ashley Black, Stacy Black and Katie Kalchthaler; and six great-grandchildren.

Her first husband, Gaylan Wisinger, preceded her in death. She married Roy E. Maurer on Sept. 22, 1956, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 31, 1977.

In addition to her husbands and her parents, Betty was preceded in death by three brothers, Joseph Seib, Leo Seib and Jacob Seib; and four sisters, Wilhelmina Dye, Agnes Dawson, Mary Brant and Anna Jean Savona.

The family suggests memorial tributes be made to Lakeview Meals on Wheels, 7 Linden Street, Stoneboro, PA 16153.
