Joseph ‘Joe’ F. Christy Sr.

Retired Army sergeant was 1981 Greenville grad

---- — Joseph “Joe” F. Christy Sr., Greenville, died unexpectedly at 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, in his residence. He was 52.

Mr. Christy was born Aug. 3, 1961, in Grove City to Harry A. Christy Sr. and Esther Ward Christy.

He graduated in 1981 from Greenville High School.

A veteran, he retired from the Army as a sergeant first class, serving with the 1st 183rd Aviation Battalion. Joe served 25 years in the Army, retiring in 2006.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Hempfield Township; and Fraternal Order of Eagles Shenango Aerie 805, Greenville.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, football and NASCAR.

Surviving are: his mother, Esther Ward Darr; and his stepfather, Allen Darr, both Atlantic; his daughter, Sasha Dayringer and her husband Chris, Bowie, Md.; two sons, Joseph F. Christy II and his wife Candace, Idaho; and Christopher Christy, Greenville; four sisters, Susan Christy, Atlantic; Darlene Herrmann, Greenville; Brenda Huffler, Pittsburgh; and Esther Christy, Missouri; four brothers, Larry Christy, Atlantic; Bill Christy, Sharon; Harry Christy, Grove City; and David Christy, Greenville; and a grandson, Gauge Christy, Idaho.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Calling hours: 10 a.m. to time of service Saturday (9-14-13) in JOHN FLYNN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY Inc., 2630 E. State St., Hermitage.

Service: Funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. C. Charles Eckles, pastor of I.H.S. Gospel Ministries, Hermitage, officiating. Honor Guard services will be rendered by the Wheatland West Middlesex Honor Guard.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
