As a three-year starter, in his senior year he was named All-WPIAL and was honorary team captain, earning a reputation as one of the top football players produced at the school. Robert also lettered in track and wrestling as a member of its last mat team in 1950.

After earning a scholarship at Penn State University, he was a one year starter with the Nittany Lions, playing with greats including Lenny Moore, Rosey Greer and Charley Blockson and was recognized for starting the college’s weight-training program.

He served on a committee in which Farrell High School renamed a drive and erected a stone monument at its gymnasium door in honor of Julius McCoy. That committee also spearheaded the planting of trees now standing on Roemer Boulevard in Farrell in appreciation of McCoy.

For many of his athletic achievements, Bob was celebrated Feb. 20, 2011, by Community Missionary Baptist Church, Farrell, with its 28th Annual Achievement Award in honor of Black History Month.

In 2011, he was inducted into Mercer County Hall of Fame.
