Sarah Marie ‘Sally’ Baker

Retired church secretary had many interests

---- — A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday for Sarah Marie “Sally” Baker of Masury. She passed away at 1:41 p.m. Monday (8-12-13) in St. Paul’s Home, West Salem Township. She was 88.

Mrs. Baker was born Nov. 9, 1924, in Sharon, a daughter of Frank and Sarah Stephens Burns.

She was a lifelong area resident and a 1943 graduate of Brookfield High School.

Sally was employed as the church secretary for 36 years at Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, retiring in 1995. She was previously an office worker at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant.

She was a member of St. Bartholomew’s Church, Sharpsville; and a former longtime active member of Church of the Sacred Heart.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed crossword puzzles, attending concerts, social dinners, shopping, Sunday drives, quilting, drinking coffee and eating ice cream. Her greatest joy, however, was spending time with her family.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mary Jane Baker, Sharpsville; a son, William “Bud” Baker and his wife Emma, Lilburn, Ga.; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Joan Wimer and her husband Homer; and Theresa Harris and her husband Melvin “Duke” Harris, all Howland, Ohio; and Faith Ann Santell and her husband Gerald, Masury; two brothers, Thomas Burns and his wife Linda, Burghill, Ohio; and Peter Burns, Vienna, Ohio; two sisters-in-law, Joann Burns, Florida; and Martha Baker, West Salem Township; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents and husband, Sally was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Baker; two sisters, Mary Ritch and Jane Crepage; and three brothers, Francis, Joseph and John Burns.
