Shirley B. Ampy

Sharon woman was singer, pianist, operated business

-----

- — Shirley B. Ampy of Sharon died at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, in her residence. She was 86.

Mrs. Ampy was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Sharon to Andrew G. and Bernice S. Stewart Bruce, who preceded her in death. Her grandparents were Martha and William Bruce.

On Sept. 25, 1945, Shirley married her husband, Franklin Leroy Ampy, to whom she was married nearly 55 years. Her husband, Leroy; her daughter, Martha Ampy Lee; and her son, Michele D. Ampy, preceded her in death.

She graduated from Farrell High School in 1945.

Shirley was stricken at age 16 with polio, which left her left hand completely paralyzed. However, this did not prevent her from playing the piano. She played for school functions, sang with her sister on local radio stations and at various venues, was a pianist for various churches, sang with two different groups on the radio, played at weddings and was a pianist at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses for 20 years or more.

She worked at Millard Fillmore Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y., and with her husband, Leroy, had operated a cleaning and cargo business.

Her sole purpose in life was her interest in history and the Bible. Mrs. Ampy was an avid reader, enjoyed entertaining her many friends and shared her home with many of her Bible students. As one of Jehovah’s Christian Witnesses, which she continued for more than 50 years, she enjoyed teaching and sharing the wonderful Bible truths with all whom she met, since she dedicated her life to her God Jehovah in 1953.

She leaves behind: a daughter, Shirley and her husband José Mundy Sr.; her beloved sister, Dr. Martha I. Bruce; two granddaughters, Erin Lee; and Viola Benjamin and her husband Roger; three grandsons, José Mundy, Jonathan Mundy and his wife Denise, and Albert Mundy; Tamara Keller, whom she helped raise like her granddaughter; and eight great-grandchildren.
