Joseph E. Davis

Westinghouse retiree worked for Greenlee

- — Joseph E. Davis of 113 S. Barry Road, West Salem Township, passed away at 6:59 p.m. Tuesday (2-4-14) in his residence. He was 82.

Mr. Davis was born Feb. 19, 1931, in Greenville to Harry E. and Ruth M. Harnevious Davis.

He was a 1949 graduate of the former Penn High School, Greenville, and had been employed for more than 20 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division and the Reynolds plant of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

After his retirement from Westinghouse, he worked part-time for Greenlee Enterprises, Greenville.

He was a past member of Zion’s Reformed United Church of Christ in Transfer.

Joe was a member of Paxton’s Restaurant Breakfast Club. He truly enjoyed fishing and farming.

Mr. Davis served in the U.S. Navy as a seaman first class from 1949-1954.

His wife, the former Margaret M. Schell, whom he married Oct. 15, 1954, passed away Sept. 11, 1982.

Surviving are: three daughters, Janet Gibbs and her husband Cyrus, Mercer; JoAnn Alabran and her husband Willard, Hadley; and Judy Krull and her husband Matthew, Harrah, Okla.; a son, Joseph E. Davis II and his wife Dorothy, Mercer; a sister, Ethel Lapadat, and a brother, Harry L. Davis and his wife Dolly, all Greenville; 16 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Sara Frank and Jean Ann Riddle.

Service: Funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Larry Helsel, pastor of New Life Assembly of God, Mercer, officiating. Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3374, Hempfield Township, will render military honors at the end of the service.

Interment: Rock Ridge Cemetery, West Salem Township.
