Lt. Cmdr. Edward McIntosh Jr.

Retired Navy officer was church elder, avid golfer

---- — Lt. Cmdr. Edward McIntosh Jr. of Brookfield passed away Monday afternoon, April 1, 2013, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System following an apparent heart attack.  He was 71 years old.

Lt. Cmdr. McIntosh was born April 28, 1941, in Sharon, a son of Edward and Florence Everett McIntosh.

He was a 1959 graduate of Brookfield High School and had attended Westminster College, New Wilmington, before enlisting in the Navy Reserves for four years. 

Ed began his career in the Navy in 1963, and served more than 21 years, attaining the rank of lieutenant commander before his retirement in 1983. He was proud of his military service and considered it an honor to serve his country, which he loved so much.

Following his discharge, he furthered his education at Youngstown State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in education, which would allow him to teach biology and sciences at what was then Kennedy Christian High School in Hermitage for more than 10 years.

Mr. McIntosh was a member of Liberty Presbyterian Church, where he had served as an elder.

He was an avid golfer and loved his time working for Hidden Oaks Golf Course in Vienna, where he had served as the former secretary of the Friday Night League.

In his spare time, he enjoyed bowling, gardening and spending time with his beloved grandchildren.

He will be sadly missed by: his wife of nearly 50 years, the former Lila M. Hacker, whom he married June 8, 1963; their four children, Edward McIntosh III, Brookfield; Bruce McIntosh, Boardman, Ohio; Susan McIntosh, Brookfield; and Jeanne and her husband Jeff McGarry, Hubbard; eight grandchildren, David and his wife Amanda, Megan, Bruce, Abby and her husband Kevin, Katie, Edward IV, Sam and Paul; three great-grandchildren, Riley, Lily and Reese; and three brothers, Doug McIntosh and his wife Carol, Mantua, Ohio; Ron McIntosh, Niles, Ohio; and Gordon McIntosh and his wife Alisande, Morris, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his infant brother, David.
