Betty Jane Collins

Ex-local woman, Penney’s retiree owned business

---- — SOUTHINGTON, Ohio – Betty Jane Collins of Southington, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away after a brief battle with cancer at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, April 4, 2013, in her home with her family at her side. She was 74.

Mrs. Collins was born Sept. 19, 1938, in Sharon, a daughter of Charles and Margaret Wasilko Kirsch.

She was a graduate of Sharpsville High School.

Mrs. Collins retired after more than 20 years of employment as a sales associate for J.C. Penney Co. Following her retirement she joined the J.C. Penney Retirement Club and enjoyed gathering with her co-workers each month for lunch.

Betty Jane owned and operated Collins’s Country Collectibles, selling crafts and antiques.

Betty was a member of Southington Christian Church, where she was involved in its Bible study group. She was a member of the Southington Women’s Fire Auxiliary.

Most importantly, she was a loving mother and grandmother. Those who knew Betty know that she lived her life with one philosophy, “This too shall pass.”

Her first husband, Andrew Brindza, whom she married Nov. 24, 1956, passed away Sept. 13, 1972. Betty’s second husband, Richard E. Collins, whom she married March 8, 1975, passed away May 15, 1995.

Surviving are: three daughters, Debra Jane Lawrence, Sharon; Laura Kramer-Wiewiora and her husband Walter J., Toledo, Ohio; and Faith Folds and her husband James M. Folds Jr., Newton Falls, Ohio; five sisters, Sherry Ann Frantz, Charlotte Shaffer, Vivian Kirsch, Diana Ginnery and Janet Thomas; four brothers, Eric, Kim, Daniel and Calvin Kirsch; and six grandchildren, Adrienne, Beau, Lauren, Bryce, Jacob and Abigail.

In addition to her two husbands, Betty Jane was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Bruce Kirsch and Charles Kirsch Jr.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Southington Fire Auxiliary in care of Lois Wortman, 2307 Montgomery N.W., Warren, OH 44485; or American Cancer Society, Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
