Tommye I. Ghiates of Stone Ridge Boulevard, formerly of Todd Avenue, both Hermitage, passed away at 8:26 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26, 2012, in her home after an extended illness. She was 80.
Mrs. Ghiates was born June 28, 1932, in Philadelphia, a daughter of Sotir and Domna Stoyco.
She graduated from high school in Philadelphia and moved to the area in 1954.
A homemaker, Tommye was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Farrell.
During the 1990s, she was employed as a sales associate at The Winner in downtown Sharon and also worked at G and H Rent-a-Car, Masury.
Tommye was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed cooking.
Her husband, Dr. Michael P. Ghiates, whom she married June 19, 1955, passed away June 7, 1988.
She is survived by: a daughter, Julie Joseph; and two sons, Peter M. Ghiates and his wife Terri; and Christopher M. Ghiates and his wife Barbara, all Hermitage; six grandchildren, Michael, Kyle, Nicholas and Austin Ghiates; and Gregory and Alyson Larimer; two stepgrandchildren, Jared and Kaitlyn Stoyer; and a sister-in-law, Zoe Lalos and her husband Theodore, Maryland.
Besides her husband, Tommye was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Alex Stoyco.
