Boyd James ‘Jim’ Gilliland Jr.

Plant manager, family man, was active in lodges

Boyd James “Jim” Gilliland Jr., New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Sharpsville , passed away peacefully Tuesday (3-26-13) after a long battle with emphysema. He was 77.

Mr. Gilliland was born May 28, 1935 in Franklin, a son of Boyd James and Evelyn Pearl Ross Gilliland.

Before recently relocating to New Port Richey, Jim was a longtime resident of Sharpsville  and a graduate of Sharpsville High School.

Jim worked for Shenango Steel in Masury as a slitter operator. He moved on to be plant manager at Western Reserve Metals, Masury and retired as the plant manager at Colonial Metal Products, Wheatland.

He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons and participated in many activities with the Reynolds and Sharpsville VFWs, as well as other area social clubs. He enjoyed bowling and golf and spending time with his family.

Jim will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and a loyal friend to many.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Marian E. Redmond; two daughters, Cathy J. Harris and her husband James, New Port Richey, Fla., and Tina M. DeBonis and her husband Jeff of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; a son; Timothy C. Gilliland and his wife Jeannette of Pittsburgh; four grandchildren, Amanda and Dillon Harris, and Sara and Kelle DeBonis;  and two great-grandchildren, Chase and James.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his uncle Glenn C. Gilliland.
