Sharon hospital volunteer ran petting zoo at fair

---- — Ramona M. “Ronnie” Farmakis of 481 Kilgore Road, Jackson Center, formerly of Sharpsville, passed away at 7:50 a.m. Monday (4-8-13) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. She was 74.

Born March 30, 1939, in Sharon, Mrs. Farmakis was a daughter of Charles D. and Mary T. Pache Harris.

She was a 1957 graduate of Sharpsville High School and attended Youngstown State University.

In her early years, she worked at First National Bank in Farrell until her marriage. She then became a homemaker.

She loved her family and was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, Farrell.

Ronnie enjoyed many activities including bowling, golf, tennis, playing bridge, knitting and reading. She was also a longtime volunteer at Sharon Regional hospital.

She loved animals and raised llamas, sheep and exotic birds. For many years, along with her family, she operated the petting zoo at The Great Stoneboro Fair.

She is survived by: two daughters, Tina King and her husband Jeffery, Jackson Center; and Jamie A. Ziegler and her husband Brad, New Castle; a son, A.J. Farmakis and his wife Jan, Hermitage; six grandchildren, Crystal Janke and her husband Kurt, Yokosuka, Japan; Jeffery King Jr. and his fiancée Melissa Lengauer, Pittsburgh; Brynn King, Jackson Center; Abbi Zeigler and Braden Zeigler, both New Castle; and Anna Farmakis, Hermitage; and three great-grandchildren, Alex, Olivia and Anna Janke, all Japan.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Lorinda Rapple, Judy Sember and Glenna Harris.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Sharon Regional Health System Hospice and Palliative Care, 2320 Highland Road, Hermitage, PA 16148; or the Glenna Harris Scholarship Fund, Penn State Shenango Valley Campus, 147 Shenango St., Sharon, PA 16146.

Calling hours: 5 p.m. to time of service Wednesday (4-10-13) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

Service: Memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home with the Rev. James G. Young, pastor, Methodists United in Faith, officiating.

Inurnment: West Side Cemetery, South Pymatuning Township.
