Wesley S. Barber

N.C. man worked in maintenance departments


MERCER COUNTY — A funeral service will be held Friday for Wesley S. Barber of Wheatland. He passed away at 6:40 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, 2013  in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. He was 91.

Mr. Barber was born Jan. 13, 1922, in Wilkesboro, N.C., to Roy and Pearl Harris Barber.

Wesley worked in the maintenance department at Giant Eagle and McDonald's, both Hermitage.

He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hubbard.

As a U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II.

He enjoyed carpentry, dancing, walking and spending time with family and friends.

His wife, the former Ina Summers, whom he married June 28, 1998, survives at home.

Also surviving are: three daughters, Betty Jane Evans and her husband Donald, Florida; and Jerilyn Hacker and her husband Donald; and Brenda Ruth and her husband Charles, all Hubbard; four sons, Anthony Barber and his wife Karen, Farrell; Arthur Miller Jr. and his wife Mary, Pennsylvania; Alvin Miller, Youngstown; and Timothy Miller and his wife Faith, Virginia; and a sister, Queen B. Reid, Winston Salem, N.C.

He also leaves several grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews, Kedron Reid, Winston Salem; Gerard Reid and his wife Vivian; Atlanta, Ga.; and Valarie Coplin and her husband Adolphus, Pfafftown, N.C.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and three brothers.

Service: Funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Luke Oskin of First Baptist Church, Hubbard, officiating. Honor Guard service will be rendered by Wheatland-West Middlesex Honor Guard.
