Charles Dale Hulse

Farmer had bus business, was hall-of-fame voter

---- — A funeral service will be held Monday for Charles Dale Hulse of Sandy Lake Township. He passed away peacefully at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a brief illness. He was 90.

Born Sept. 2, 1923, in Sandy Lake Township, Mr. Hulse was a son of Henry M. “Harry” and Louella M. Vath Hulse.

He was a 1942 graduate of the former Stoneboro High School.

Mr. Hulse was a lifelong dairy farmer in Sandy Lake Township, along with owning and operating H&W Bussing, running school busses from 1953 to the present. He also retired in 1985 from Agway Petroleum, where he was a transport driver.

He joined the former Sandy Lake Methodist Church in 1934 and was a current member of Lakeview United Methodist Church, where he had served on the board of trustees.

Mr. Hulse was an Army peacetime veteran, discharged in 1950.

He served as a Sandy Lake Township auditor for 24 years and was a member of New Vernon Grange. He was inducted into the Pennsylvania Voters Hall of Fame for a 50-year continuous voting record.

Dale was a hard-working man and was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He loved farming and enjoyed spending time with family and friends.

He married the former Marion Baker on May 18, 1951; she survives at home.

Also surviving are a daughter, Cheryl Walworth and her husband Joel, Stoneboro; two sons, Ronald D. Hulse, Sandy Lake; and Kevin J. Hulse, Greenville; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Margaret Brown and her husband John, Bensenville, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Harry Hulse Jr. and Roger B. Hulse.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday (10-13-13) in SCOTT A. BLACK FUNERAL HOME, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday (10-14-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. Susan M. Hoover, pastor, Methodists United In Faith, assisted by the Rev. Larry T. Corner, family friend and pastor of Evans Memorial United Methodist Church, Lewis Run, Pa., co-officiating.

Interment and committal: Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
