Richard Allen Wimer

1973 Grove City grad worked at Mercer Forge, Tube City


- — Richard Allen Wimer of Volant (Springfield Township) passed away at 10:40 p.m. Thursday (10-24-13) in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, following a seven-month illness. He was 58.

He was born Dec. 1, 1954, in New Castle to William Wimer and Bessie Jane McGary Wimer.

He was an Eagle Scout and graduated in 1973 from Grove City High School, where he was very active in Future Farmers of America. Dick received the highest award you can receive in the FFA, “The Keystone Degree.”

He worked in maintenance at Mercer Forge and later was an equipment operator at Tube City. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 66 and of the Protestant faith.

He enjoyed farming, building and fixing things, and cooking.

Survivors include three daughters, Samantha N. Wimer, Mackenzie M. Wimer and Mikayla J. Wimer, all Volant; a girlfriend, Cindy Paschal, Savannah, Ga.; a brother, Thomas J. Wimer and wife Debra, Volant; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours: 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday (10-27-13) in SMITH FUNERAL HOME, 1778 Perry Highway, Springfield Township.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday (10-28-13) in the funeral home with Pastor Bill Woodman of Center Presbyterian Church.

Interment: Volant Cemetery.
