Elizabeth ‘Betty’ M. Kotzak

Hospital retiree catered for Byzantine church

- — Elizabeth “Betty” M. Kotzak of Hermitage, passed away at 12:25 a.m. Friday, Nov. 1, 2013, in John XXIII Home, Hermitage, after a brief illness. She was 96.

Mrs. Kotzak was born April 4, 1917, in Junedale, Pa., to John and Anna Galatko Michal-ochick.

Elizabeth worked as a housekeeper for the former Shenango Valley Osteopathic Hospital, Farrell, for 20 years until her retirement in 1982.

On July 18, 1937, she married George Kotzak, who passed away Jan. 11, 1993.

Elizabeth and George lived in Hermitage.

She was a member of Infant Jesus Prague Guild, the Altar Rosary Society and Shenango Inc. Retirees Association.

Elizabeth enjoyed cooking, baking and spending time with her family; she loved traveling with her husband and also helped cater at St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage.

Elizabeth is survived by: two daughters, Rita M. and her husband John Holliday, Hermitage; and Bernice A. Medved, Tacoma, Wash.; a son, Leonard G. Kotzak and his wife Bettie, Schenectady, N.Y.; two granddaughters, Debbe A. and her husband Thomas Weldon, Lakewood, Wash.; and Grace A. and her husband Dan Oakes, University Place, Wash.; two grandsons, David Britton and his wife Darlene, Warren, Ohio; and Griffin J. McCullough, Tacoma; four great-grandsons, Thomas Weldon III, Daniel Weldon, Teagan Oakes and Jordan Oakes; and four great-granddaughters, Nicole Britton, Meghan and her husband Vince Petrof, Hallie Ruggeri and Mandi Britton; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, George Kotzak; her father, John Michalochick; mother, Anna Michalochick; granddaughters, Susan Jensen and Kathy Ruggeri; daughter, Lillian E. Britton; two sisters; and five brothers.

Service: Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. Monday (11-4-13) in St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, with the Rev. Kevin Marks, officiating. Panachida at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home. The procession will leave for the church at 10:30 a.m.

Interment: St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage.
