Richard D. Bauer

Sharon man, Sawhill worker belonged to clubs


- — Richard D. Bauer of Sharon passed away at 1:58 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 77.

Mr. Bauer was born Sept. 17, 1936, in Sharon to Emery and Mary Kocis Bauer.

Richard attended Sharon High School and worked for Sawhill Tubular for 40 years as a pipefitter.

He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church, Farrell.

Richard served in the Army from 1956 to 1959 and achieved the rank of sergeant. He belonged to American Legion Post 299, Sharon.

Mr. Bauer was a member of the Italian Home, Farrell; Slovenian Workingmen’s Educational Club, Sharon; and Farrell Sportsman’s Club. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, helping at the farmer’s market in Sharon, and cooking and baking, having worked part time at several bakeries in the valley. Most of all, Richard loved watching and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.

His wife of 57 years, the former Catherine Easley, whom he married Oct 8, 1956, survives at home.

He also leaves: three children, Richard Bauer Jr. and his wife Crystal, Sharpsville; Linda Johnson and her husband Jeff, Sharon; and James Bauer and his wife Lisa, West Middlesex; a sister, Mary Jane DePillo and her husband Phil, Florida; his grandchildren, Cory Johnson, Beau Bauer, Kathie Jo Dobbs, Mari Jo Bauer and Amanda Bateman; and his great-grandchildren, Alicia Dobbs, Ryan Dobbs, Dominic Dobbs and Kayla Arsenau.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Emery Bauer Jr. and George Bauer.
