Duane Reed Harrison

Stoneboro man, WE retiree was Cooper security guard

- — Duane Reed Harrison of Branch Street, Stoneboro, passed away at 10:28 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2014, in his residence with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 84.

Mr. Harrison was born March 24, 1930, in Mill Creek Township, a son of James and Phyllis Reed Harrison.

He was a 1948 graduate of the former Stoneboro High School.

He retired from the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., then went to work at Cooper Bessemer, Grove City, as a security guard.

He was of the Protestant faith.

Duane was an avid follower and supporter of all Detroit professional sports teams and also enjoyed following the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates.

Through the years, he enjoyed traveling. A priority in his life was his family; he always cherished the moments he could share with his grandchildren.

He is survived by: a son, Don Harrison and his wife Kathy; and a daughter, Jacki Opitz and her husband Bob, all Stoneboro; two brothers, James Harrison and his wife Helen, Sandy Lake; and Robert Harrison, Erie; and seven grandchildren, Weston Harrison and his wife Michella, Worth Township; Valerie Harrison, Stoneboro; Kayla Harrison and her companion Drew Dayton, Stoneboro; Monica Hoffman and her husband Tyler, Ellwood City; Travis Opitz and his wife Chelle, Hadley; Brandi Opitz, Stoneboro; and Ashely Anisansel and her husband Brian, Stoneboro.

He also leaves 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-grandson, Jaxson Anisansel.

The family has suggested memorial contributions be made to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, 1965 Shenango Valley Freeway, Suite 2, Hermitage, PA 16148.
