Barbara Ann Blair Douds

Covenant Presbyterian member was civic-minded

- — Barbara Ann Blair Douds of Hermitage passed away at 6:08 p.m. Friday, June 13, 2014, in her home after an extended illness. She was 84.

Barbara was born in Dec. 28, 1929, in Sharon, a daughter of the late Cecil B. and Eva (Bartholomew) Blair.

She was a graduate of Sharon High School and later earned an associate’s degree at Pennsylvania State University – Shenango Campus, Sharon, through their Go 60 Program.

Barbara was a 50-plus-years member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, Sharon.

She was an American Red Cross volunteer, a member of her high school reunion committee and organized the West Hill school reunions. She was a civic-minded person, having worked with the “Save The Westinghouse Park” campaign and having attended many city meetings as Hermitage developed. Barbara enjoyed going on cultural trips with Penn State students and faculty.

She was the widow of Robert S. Douds Sr., who died May 13, 1994.

She is survived by her daughter, Barbara S. Houghton and her husband Robert, Chapel Hill, N.C.; five sons, Robert S. Douds Jr. and Shirley, Sewickley; David B. Douds and Sherry,  San Diego; John  L. Douds. Seffner, Fla.; James P. Douds and his wife, Cynthia L. Davis, Sharon; and Joseph B. Douds and his wife Devi, of Grove City; seven grandchildren, Dianna, Danielle and Graham Douds; Elizabeth and Grant Houghton; and Samuel and Aaron Douds; and two great-grandchildren, Ella and Hugo Rodriges.

Also surviving are her sister, Gloria Tomko, Sharon; and her brother, James Blair and his wife Virginia, Greenville.

Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, John, Gene, Raymond and June Blair; and Wilda Bresnahan, Lois Rowe and Phyllis Lynch.

The family would like to thank all of her caregivers for the wonderful care she received during her illness.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park mausoleum, Hermitage.
