Virginia E. Blair

Homemaker was cafeteria worker, active in church

- — Virginia E. Blair of St. Paul’s, 339 E. Jamestown Road, West Salem Township, passed away at 3:18 p.m. Saturday, June 21, 2014, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 89.

Mrs. Blair was born in Greenville on Oct. 21, 1924, to the late George and Anna (Hause) Heckman.

Virginia was a 1941 graduate of the former Fredonia-Delaware High School and a 1942 graduate of Shenango Valley Commercial Institute.

She worked as a secretary for Erie Railroad in Clark and Sharon Steel.

Virginia then became a homemaker while raising her family;  after her children became older, she worked in the cafeteria for Reynolds School District.

She was an active member of Greenville Alliance Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, and was a member of the Alliance Women’s Prayer Fellowship.

Virginia volunteered for many years at the voting polls, and enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading her Bible.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, James R. Blair Sr., who resides at St. Paul’s. They were married May 6, 1950.

Also surviving are: two sons, James R. Blair Jr. and his wife Lori, Hermitage; and Jeffrey Blair and his wife Suzanne, Greenville; two daughters, Beth Zorn and her husband Robert,  Houston; and Bonnie Prugh and her husband Douglas, Greenville; nine grandchildren, Cara (Zorn) Bowman and her husband Dave, Colleyville, Texas; James R. Blair III, Narragansett, R.I.; Heather Blair, Abingdon, Va.; Amy, Ryan and Corey Blair, all Greenville; Andrew Paxson, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; and Emily and Olivia Paxson, both Greenville; three great-grandchildren, Luke, Kyle and Lily Bowman, Colleyville; and a sister, Aleen Danner, Greenville.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Ann Blair; two brothers, Roland Heckman and Laverne Hause; and a sister, Naomi King.

Memorial contributions can be made to The Great Commission Fund of Greenville Alliance Church, 63 Conneaut Lake Road, Greenville.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Wednesday (6-25-14) in the church with the Rev. Jerry Hunter, associate pastor, officiating.

Burial: With committal prayers following the service at Delaware Cemetery, Fredonia.
