Dorothy Ann Lean

Greenville bakery co-owner had raised race horses

-----

- — Dorothy Ann Lean of 347 Baker Road, Sugar Grove Township, passed away in her residence on Sunday morning, June 22, 2014. She was 89.

She was born in Pittsburgh on April 26, 1925, to the late Edward and Matilda (Demmler) Bailey.

She was a graduate of the former West View High School and grew up in the Pittsburgh area.

She was married to Clyde Lean on Sept. 19, 1954; he preceded her in death on June 11, 1992.

Along with her husband and other family members, they owned and operated Lean’s Bakery in Greenville for 38 years.  She especially enjoyed the cake decorating part of the business and often recalled one Saturday when they had to prepare seven wedding cakes. She was always interested in fashion design and decorating, a talent she inherited from her maternal grandmother.

Dorothy and Clyde also raised race horses for many years, and some were very successful. She loved all animals, both domestic and wild, and loved living where she could feed and observe the wildlife, especially the birds.

She was a member of Hadley Presbyterian Church.

The family would like to offer a special “thank-you” to St. Paul’s Without Walls and Southern Care Hospice.

Dorothy is survived by her brother-in-law, Harry Lean Jr. and his wife Dorothy, Greenville; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Children’s Center of Mercer County, 900 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage, PA 16148, or online at http://ccmc web.com
