Woodrow ‘Woody’ Heilman Cole Sr.

United Methodist member was blast furnace foreman

Woodrow “Woody” Heilman Cole Sr. of Wheatland, passed away at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2011, in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. He was 97.

Mr. Cole was born Feb. 11, 1914, in Wheatland to Heilman Davis Cole and Lillian Stoops Cole.

He retired after 40 years of service from the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant, where he was a foreman in the blast furnace. After retirement, Woody was employed for 10 years at Cinema World in Hermitage.

He was a member of Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church and Free and Accepted Masons Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex.

His wife of 62 years, the former Hazel Bell Flickinger, whom he married April 9, 1934, preceded him in death.

Surviving are: a son, Woodrow Heilman Cole Jr. and his wife Mary Lou; and a daughter, Joan M. Cole Visnyai and her husband Frank, all The Villages, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Linda Levine and her husband Steve; Richard Cole and his wife Beth Ann; Ronald Cole, Woody’s principle caregiver, and his wife Theresa; Elaine Mitchell and her husband Alex; Frank Visnyai; Robin Ferrary and her husband Bill; and Timothy Visnyai; 14 great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold Buff, Sheakleyville; and loving neighbors, Joe and Diana Bougher.

Besides his wife, Woody was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Claude, Albert, Robert, Chester, Raymond and Calvin “Lindy” Cole.

Service: Funeral service at 2 p.m. Sunday (2-20-11) in the funeral home with the Rev. Sarah Roncolato, pastor of the Wheatland-Farrell United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment:Haywood Cemetery, West Middlesex.
