Donald E. Thompson

Coolspring man was truck owner, operator


- — Donald E. Thompson of Coolspring Township passed away  at 12:45 p.m. Friday (11-22-13) in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after an extended illness. He was 73.

He was born in Mercer to Earl Clayton Thompson and Hazel Douds on Dec. 2, 1939.

He married Patricia Baeron on June 12, 1958.

He worked at Westrac, now Mercer Forge, then worked at Greenville Steel Car. He also worked at Interstate Chemical and he retired in 2006 from truck driving as an owner and operator.

He is survived by his wife, at home; a daughter, Gwen and her husband Robert Lail, Thornhurst, Pa.; a son, Jeffrey Thompson, Mercer; a sister, Gloria and her husband Robert Wright, Jackson Center; two brothers, Wendell Thompson and his wife Joanne, Mercer; and Joel Thompson, North Carolina; four grandsons, Matthew King, Donald Thompson and his wife Becki, David Lail, and Brodie Thompson and his wife Lydia.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger Thompson; and a sister-in-law, Jeannette Thompson.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 p.m. Monday (11-25-13) and 10 a.m. to time of service Tuesday (11-26-13) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 144 S. Pitt St., Mercer.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. Rick Vogeley, pastor of Bethany Presbyterian Church, Mercer, officiating.

Burial: Springfield Cemetery, Findley Township.
