Shirley L. Tinkey

Grove City-area hospital retiree was elections judge

---- — Shirley L. Tinkey, a resident for the past two years of Orchard Manor, Pine Township, and formerly a longtime resident of East Pine Street, Grove City, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2011, from natural causes. She was 82.

Shirley was born March 6, 1928, in Grove City, a daughter of Clyde “Flick” and Lucille Osborne Adams.

She was a 1946 graduate of Grove City Area High School.  She retired in 1993 from Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, where she was an admissions clerk for many years.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City.

Shirley was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grammy. She enjoyed spending time with her family and looked forward to annual family vacations at Geneva-on-the-Lake, Ohio. She participated in a card club and bowling league for many years and was an avid Pittsburgh Pirates fan.

She was a judge of elections with the Mercer County Board of Elections for Ward 1 of Grove City.

Her husband, Roger L. Tinkey, whom she married March 1, 1948, passed away Aug. 30, 2009.

Surviving are two sons, Larry Tinkey and his wife Patricia, Grove City; and Michael Tinkey and his wife Melissa, Crestline, Ohio; a daughter, Karen Nelson and her husband David, Grove City; two sisters, Marjory Vogan, Grove City; and Barbara Brown, Harrisburg; a brother, Clyde “Tom” Adams and his wife Janice, PA Furnace; two sister-in-laws, Glorianne Tinkey, Grove City; and Phyllis King and her husband John, Wilmington, Del.; six grandchildren, Wendy Hancox Elliott and her husband Ron; Jody Hancox Clinger and her husband, Nathan; Penny Tinkey Cruder and her husband Jered; Thomas Tinkey; Courtney Tinkey and Jaret Tinkey; and seven great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Peggy Arblaster and Lillian Nelson; and her brothers-in-law, Kenneth Brown, John Vogan, James Tinkey and Kenneth Nelson.

Calling hours: 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday (1-29-11) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave. Grove City.

Service: Funeral service at 1 p.m. Sunday (1-30-11) in the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Milliken, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial: Crestview Memorial Park, Inc., Pine Township.
