East Lackawannock man drove truck, enjoyed music

---- — Richard A. Courteau Sr., 8203 Sharon-Mercer Road, East Lackawannock Township, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at 10:40 p.m. Friday (4-19-13) in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 59.

Born in Bradford, Pa., Nov. 28, 1953, he was a son of Charles J. and Barbara J. Stewart Courteau.

He was a 1971 of St. Marys High School.

He was a truck driver and drove for Courteau Trucking and then Jarco Trucking of Ohio for more than 20 years, hauling steel.

He was of the Protestant faith.

He loved listening to music and was a follower of the Lost Highway Band. He loved shooting pool and enjoyed fishing. He loved mechanical things and working on cars.

He is survived by his children, Lynn Pumphrey, Pennsylvania; Rosana Carothers and her husband William, Mercer; Krystel Courteau, Transfer; Richard A. Courteau Jr., Oklahoma; and Richard Courteau, Pennsylvania; his siblings, Christine A. Shetter and her fiancé Jerry Fetterman, Jackson Center; Carol Wimbs and her husband David, Cleveland; Charles J. Courteau Jr. and his wife Joan, Greenville; and William L. Courteau and his wife Kathy, Grove City; and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Leona Marie Courteau.

Service: Funeral service at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with the Rev. James G. Young, pastor, Methodists United In Faith, officiating.

Inurnment: Transfer Cemetery, Transfer.
