Betty A. Bogner

Store office manager married grocery’s butcher

- — Funeral Mass will be Friday for Betty A. Bogner of Masury, who passed away peacefully Sunday morning, April 6, 2014, in John the XXIII Home, Hermitage. She was 90.

Betty was born Sept. 20, 1923, in Leechburg, a daughter of Andrew and Julia Soltes Laslow.

During World War II, Betty worked for Westinghouse Electric Corp.’s former Sharon Transformer Division, and after the war for the former Murphy’s five and ten in Farrell.

She retired with 35 years of service in 1987 from Ferrara’s Golden Dawn grocery store, where she had worked as the office manager. It was during her time at Golden Dawn that she met her future husband, George J. Bogner, who was working as a butcher there.

They were married Aug. 21, 1967, and would go on to share more than 37 years of marriage before his passing on March 30, 2005.

She leaves behind: her daughter, Helene Leavens of Masury; her granddaughter, Joell Stebelton and her husband Greg, North Lima, Ohio; a great-grandson, Benjamin Stebelton; a great-granddaughter, Joey Stebelton; a sister, Teresa Trinckes; and three brothers, Robert, Ernie and Joseph Laslow.

She was predeceased by her husband, George; her stepmother who helped to raise her, Helen Haddie-Laslow; four brothers, Paul, Albert, John and James Laslow; and sisters Ethel Szuch and Olga Snyder.

Funeral: Mass of Christian burial at noon Friday in St. Adalbert Catholic Church, 1035 Fruit Ave., Farrell, with the Rev. Donald Berdis, pastor of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church, as celebrant.

Interment: Next to her husband in Brookfield Township Cemetery.
