Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday for Dominic R. Giancarlo, Allyson Drive, Howland Township, Trumbull County, formerly of Farrell. He passed away at 5:12 p.m. Friday (4-11-14) in the emergency room at Trumbull Memorial Hospital. He was 84.
Dominic was born May 5, 1929, in Farrell, a son of Pasquale and Santa Chiodo Giancarlo.
He was raised in Farrell and graduated from Farrell High School in 1947. He matriculated to Youngstown State University where he earned his bachelor of science degree in business administration and an elementary education degree. He also earned his master’s degree in elementary administration from Westminster College, New Wilmington.
He was a teacher and administrator in the James A. Garfield School District, Garrettsville, Ohio, for 27 years. Prior to teaching, he worked in several capacities in various lines of work: as a field representative and consultant for Golden Dawn Foods, claims interviewer for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania (Division of Unemployment Compensation), and salesman for Carnegie Park Sportswear. He also worked for Sharpsville Fabricating in his early years.
He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church, Farrell.
He was a member of several groups and associations including Alpha Mu at Youngstown State University; Ohio Education Association; Youngstown State University Alumni Association; American Legion Post 160, Farrell; life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers; and AARP.
During the Korean conflict he served two years with the Army and was stationed in England.
His wife, the former Helen J. Kobiloinsky, whom he married on Aug. 15, 1978, survives at home.
He also leaves his two stepsons, William F. Sine and his wife Debbie, Rio Rancho, N.M.; and Robert M. Sine, Melbourne, Fla.; one grandson, William Sine; and a great-granddaughter, Madison.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ronald G. Giancarlo.

Service: Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated a 10:30 a.m. Thursday (4-17-14) in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell. A brief prayer service will take place in the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. prior to processing to the church.
Interment: St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Hermitage.
