He married the love of his life, Georgia Gray, on Aug. 22, 1964, and together they started a family.

Together with his wife, they were the 2001 recipients of the Big Brother/Big Sister of the Year award.

In his spare time, he was an avid street rod enthusiast, restored numerous automobiles and traveled extensively to car shows and rod runs with close friends; entertained many hospitalized children and nursing home residents as a Grotto clown; and prepared and served swiss steak dinners to the public for more than 20 years to help raise funds for his church.

He was a devoted husband to his beloved Georgia and proud father to his children, Michelle Lynn Johnson and her husband Jeffrey, Boulder, Colo., and Brent William Haynie and his wife Letizia, Durham, N.C. He adored his grandchildren, Michiko Haynie, Calder William Haynie, Evelyn Johnson and Annika Johnson; and respected his sisters, Shirley VanSlyke, Masury; and Flora Smith, Brookfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by his sister, Rose Moffett.

Due to allergies, the family has requested that no flowers be sent or that those attending wear no cologne or perfume.
