Millard D. ‘Pete’ Burrows

Decorated Korean War vet retired from Sharon Steel

- — Millard D. “Pete” Burrows of Shenango Township passed away at 2:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 86.

Mr. Burrows was born March 1, 1928, in Hubbard to Carl and Amy Boak Burrows.

He attended the former Stoney Hills School, Shenango Township.

Pete worked as a furnace operator for 38è years at the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell plant, from which he retired in 1987.

He was of the Methodist faith.

Pete served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict from 1950 to 1952, earning four Bronze Stars. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex, and American Legion Post 432, Wheatland, and the former Korean War Veterans.

Pete enjoyed cutting down trees and splitting wood, solving jigsaw puzzles, traveling, gardening and the outdoors.

He married his wife, with whom he spent 62 wonderful years, Elizabeth Fair Burrows, on March 10, 1952. She survives at home.

Also surviving are: a son, Thomas Burrows and his wife Sally, Portersville; two sisters, Shirley Gerthung, North Lima, Ohio; and Wilma Hamilton and her husband the Rev. James Hamilton, Ambridge; a brother, Earl Burrows, Hadley; his grandchildren, Amanda Pistorius; Jessica Moore and her husband David; and Jeremiah Burrows and his fiancée Belle Vogler; and his great-grandchildren, Alyssa Pistorius, Madison Pistorius, Charles Moore, Jacob Moore and Jeremiah Burrows Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Burrows; three sisters, Ethel Bell Harshbarger, Delma Gorden and Amy Thomas; and five brothers, Gilbert, Dean, Fred, Kenneth and Donald Burrows.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Saturday (5-10-14) in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. C. Charles Eckles, pastor of I.H.S. Gospel Ministries, Hermitage, officiating. Full military honors will be rendered by the Shenango Valley Honor Guard.

Burial: Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage.
