Pearl A. Scarmack

Farrell homemaker loved family, cooking, traveling


---- — Pearl A. Scarmack, formerly of Negley Street, Farrell, passed away at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, July 11, 2013, in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, after a brief illness. She was 89.

Mrs. Scarmack was born Nov. 5, 1923, in Sharon, a daughter of Ralph Olin and Florence A. Crouch Wilson.

A lifelong area resident, she attended Sharon and Hickory schools and was a 1941 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage.

A homemaker, Pearl married Arthur A. Scarmack Sr. on Nov. 22, 1941. They were married for 71 years when he preceded her in death eight months ago, on Dec. 4, 2012.

She enjoyed singing, playing cards and cooking for her many friends and family, as well as traveling. She was known for hosting the annual Feast of the Seven Fishes Christmas Eve dinner for many years.

Most of all, Pearl enjoyed spending time with her family.

Mrs. Scarmack was of the Catholic faith and was a lifelong member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church in Farrell.

She is survived by: two daughters, Rebecca M. Marksteiner, Monaca; and Carol A. Femia and her husband Luigi, Hubbard; and four sons, Arthur A. Scarmack Jr. and his wife Michalene, Sharon; Richard A. Scarmack and his wife Doreen, Masury; and James “Jim” O. Scarmack and his wife Sandy, and Robert J. Scarmack and his wife Cathy, all Farrell.

Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

Besides her husband, Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Richard A. Wilson, who was killed in a plane crash in 1951; and Ralph “Buddy” Wilson, who died as a toddler; two half brothers, Harry and Paul Wilson; three sisters, an infant, Helen Frances Wilson; and Ruth J. Meyers and Betty Bishop; a granddaughter, Gina Femia Smith; and a son-in-law, Joseph Marksteiner.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann’s Church, 601 Roemer Blvd., Farrell, PA 16121.

Interment: St. Anthony’s Cemetery, Hermitage.
