Karen A. Kish

Flexospan manager served in church, Helping Hands

---- — Karen A. Kish, North Las Vegas, Nev., formerly of Stoneboro, passed away unexpectedly Saturday morning, April 9, 2011, in Valley Hospital, Las Vegas, of natural causes. She was 64.

Born Nov. 5, 1946, in Cochranton, she was a daughter of Henry E. and Grace A. Michel Wilcox.

A 1964 graduate of Cochranton High School, she earned a degree in education from Edinboro University.

Mrs. Kish began her professional career with the Pennsylvania State Green Thumb Project. Then in 1983 she joined Flexospan of Sandy Lake as a member of the sales department, gaining extensive knowledge of the commercial and industrial steel roofing and siding business. She became Flexospan’s sales manager in the mid-1990’s. This involved her in all aspects of the business, including raw material selection, product testing and development, plant production and quality control, all of which helped Flexospan with new business development. She also was a member of the board of directors of Flexospan.

Karen was well known and respected in the metal roofing and siding industry as her experience and knowledge had developed numerous long-standing relationships with customers for over 25 years.

As a member of the Metal Construction Association, Karen participated in many seminars and trade meetings and was very involved in industry developments and was on the cutting edge of the new green technology.

In October 2010 she and her husband Steve were fortunate to find the home they desired in North Las Vegas when she decided to step away from the day-to-day operations at Flexospan and semi-retire. She became vice president of western region-sales as she continued to keep in touch with the company’s operations.

Karen was actively involved with her church and community for many years. She was a member of Stoneboro United Methodist Church where she served for many years as chairman of the administrative board that included the church renovation and construction phase, chairman of the pastor parish relations committee, and as a Sunday school teacher. She also sang in the choir.

Her church involvement led her to becoming a part of Lakeview Area Helping Hands in 1987, where until recently she volunteered and served on the board of directors, holding the offices of treasurer, secretary and for many years as chairman of the board.

Karen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be sadly missed by her family. She will be remembered as an excellent cook and baker. She loved to travel and enjoyed going to the casino.

She leaves behind her husband, Steve A. Kish, whom she married Aug. 30, 1969, at home; a daughter, Susan Kornhaus and husband Jerry, Jonestown, Pa.; three sons, Dr. Michel P. Kish and his wife Tanya, Mechanicsville, Va.; Dan H. Kish and his wife Cynthia, Millbrook, N.Y.; and Steven C. Kish and his wife Jill, Meadville; 13 grandchildren; her father, Henry E. Wilcox, Lake Arthur, Fla.; one sister, Murial “Suzy” Lange and her husband Paul, Willow Grove, Pa.; and two brothers, Michel P. Wilcox and his wife Beth, Cochranton; and Daniel R. Wilcox, Carlton.

Karen’s mother preceded her in death.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Lakeview Area Helping Hands, PO Box 145, Stoneboro, PA 16153.
