A funeral service will be held Thursday for Gedell Patterson of 425 N. Mercer Ave., Sharpsville. She passed away peacefully at 4 p.m. Saturday (7-6-13) in John XXIII Home, Hermitage. She was 82.
Mrs. Patterson was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Cheraw, S.C., to John and Margaret Johnson Sanders.
Gedell was a graduate of Farrell High School and retired as a nurse’s aide from John XXIII Home.
As a lifelong resident of Sharpsville, Mrs. Patterson was a 60-year member of Second Baptist Church.
In her younger years, Gedell loved traveling to various tourist spots including Niagara Falls; Virginia Beach, Va.; Atlantic City, N.J.; and North Carolina. She was passionately devoted to reading her Bible daily and watching her favorite gospel programs.
She enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren, Wendell and Catrina Ponder, Naomi Gedell Patterson, Alicia Wisemen and Amanda Loudin. Her heart belonged to her great-grandchildren, Dominiq, Monroe, Jersi, Gabby and Hailey and her “W” girls.
Her husband, Marvin L. Patterson, is deceased.
Gedell is survived by her son, Duane Patterson and his wife Jeannette of South Pymatuning Township, and will be sadly missed by all who love her.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Peggy Y. “Tennie” Patterson-Ponder, who passed away April 1 of this year.
