State forester enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf

---- — William “Bill” G. Slusser of Grove City, formerly of Lake Latonka and Oil City, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, in his residence after a heroic battle with brain cancer. He was 73.

Bill will be greatly missed by his beloved wife, Mary C. Slusser, Grove City; children, Bill Slusser and his wife Denise, Cranberry Township; Jack Slusser, Wilmington, N.C.; Linda Delvaux and her husband David, Grove City; and Brian Slusser and his wife Alysia, Chicago.

He cherished his grandchildren, Matthew, Conner, Samantha and Ava.

Bill is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Stella Slusser; and his sister, Joanne and her husband Jim McCann.

Mr. Slusser was born May 31, 1940, in Pittsburgh, and grew up in Swissvale, raised a family in Oil City and retired to Lake Latonka.

Bill graduated from Penn State University with a degree in forestry.

He was a forester in the Northwest Region for 31 years with the Pennsylvania State Game Commission.

An outdoor enthusiast, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf and was a dedicated fan of Pittsburgh sports teams and a coach of various teams of his children.

He enjoyed people and would initiate conversation with ease. He became a friend to all who knew him. Above all, he was passionately dedicated to his family; there were no lengths to which he would not go to assist, protect or console them.

The family is indebted to all the friends and family members who rose to the occasion during this difficult period. The support, prayers and assistance can never be repaid.
