Mary Filipovich

Sacred Heart member worked at Valley View

---- — Mary Filipovich, formerly of Brookfield Avenue, Masury, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 92.

Mrs. Filipovich was born Aug. 15, 1920, in New Alexandria, Pa., a daughter of Nick and Mary Mackowycz Orenchak.

She was a 1937 graduate of Brookfield High School.

Mary went on to marry her sweetheart, Rudolph R. Filipovich, on Oct. 4, 1941, and with him would share more than 65 years of marriage and their two children, Marianne and Robert.

Mary had worked as head of the domestic department for the former Valley View Department Store during the 1960s and 1970s.

She was a longtime member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, and in her spare time, was known for her needleworking skills and as an accomplished seamstress.

Mary enjoyed cooking, baking, canning and traveling with her husband. She had been active with the Brookfield Parent Teacher Association while her children were in school. 

Survivors include: her daughter, Marianne Kreitner and her husband Ronald, Baltimore; her son, Robert “Butch” Filipovich and his wife Patricia, Brookfield; her sister, Catherine Orenchak, Hermitage; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rudy, on Oct. 13, 2006; three brothers, Charles, Andrew and John Orenchak; and her sister, Ann DeMay.

As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Second Harvest Food Bank, 2805 Salt Springs Road, Youngstown, OH 44509.

Service: Mass of Christian burial at 11 a.m. Friday (8-9-13) in Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon, with the Rev. Henry C. Andrae, pastor, as celebrant.

Burial: Next to her husband at Brookfield Township Cemetery.
