Dorothy J. Reed

County woman was nurse’s aide, kitchen manager

---- — Dorothy J. Reed of Sandy Creek Township passed away Tuesday morning (8-13-13) in her residence following an extended illness. She was 79.

Dorothy was born Nov. 19, 1933, in Hopewell Township, Beaver County, to John and Elberta (Holmes) McCoy.   

On May 28, 1951, she married George A. Reed in Cumberland, Md.  

She was a certified nurse’s aide and had been employed at Pine Haven Nursing Home in Morrison, Colo., for many years.  

She then went on to complete courses at the University of Northern Colorado, after which she began a career in food services, serving as the kitchen manager for Acres Green Elementary School in Douglas County, Colo.  

She was a member of Perry Baptist Church, Perry Township.  

She was an avid gardener, loved animals, painting, drawing and camping, and was noted for her baking of beautifully detailed cakes for all occasions. Most importantly she enjoyed being able to spend time with her family.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years; a daughter, Constance J. Walker and her husband Michael, Hadley; a son, Daniel P. Reed and his wife Cindy, Hadley; four sisters and five brothers; and 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, who lovingly and affectionately called her “Nana Bear.”

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved son, David G. Reed; and three brothers, Daniel, David and Stuart McCoy.
