Mildred "Becky" Beckwith Owen of Pittsburgh, formerly of Sharon, passed away at 8 a.m. Thursday (6-26-14) in the UPMC Passavant Hospital, McCandless Campus, following a brief illness. She was 96.
Mrs. Owen was born Sept. 27, 1917 in Calvary, Ga., to Arthur and Shirley McNair Beckwith. She moved to the Sharon area with her parents when she was a young girl and later graduated from Sharon High School.
On July 14, 1938 she married her husband, Richard D. Owen, who passed away on Aug. 17, 2004.
Mrs. Owen was very active in her church where she would volunteer for whatever was needed and taught Bible study.
Becky loved to read biographies, family stories, and religious books and was an avid golfer. She loved to travel to Hawaii with her husband.
Mrs. Owen is survived by her daughter, Judith Norton and her husband Ronald, Alexandria, Va.; and her son, Edward “Ted” Owen and his wife Diane, Gibsonia, Pa.; and two grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and a sister, Delores Hunt.
