John Wesley Cicen

WE retiree married 70 years was active in church


---- — John Wesley Cicen of Sharon went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 10, 2013. He was 96.

Mr. Cicen was born July 2, 1917, in Terre Haute, Ind., to John and Anna Dragos Cicen.

He married his high school sweetheart, Anne Ferezon Cicen. They celebrated 70 years together. He loved his family deeply; he was greatly loved by family and all who knew him. John will be missed tremendously.

John was a 1934 alumnus of Sharon High School. During his high school years he worked at a bakery after school, making pies.

Mr. Cicen retired after a long career as a draftsman and supervisor in the renewal parts department at Westinghouse Electric Corp. Prior to Westinghouse, John worked at the former National Castings Division of Midland-Ross Corp., Sharon.

John was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Sharon, its hospitality group, evening prayer group and Bible study. He was a member of the former St. John Romanian Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, where he enjoyed singing in the choir with Anne and ringing the church bell for many years. He was a longtime member of the Association of Romanian Catholics of America (ARCA).

Throughout life and during retirement, John enjoyed spending time with family and friends, volunteering and traveling. John was an avid bowler, card player and golfer, and was a wonderful dancer.

Most recently a resident of John XXIII Home, Hermitage, he enjoyed many activities such as bowling, bocce ball, shuffleboard and crafts. He also enjoyed his recent golf trips to Myrtle Beach, S.C.

John was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife of 70 years, Annie; and three sisters, Valeria Sensesak, Anna Maschgan and Mary Snyder.

Known as “Papa 2,” John will be greatly missed by his survivors: his son, John Randolph “Randy” Cicen and his wife Nelle Nicolls Cicen, Aurora, Ohio; five grandchildren, Christine and her husband Rich Houston; Cassie Cicen; Kelly and her husband Jeff Pascoe; Christopher Cicen and his wife Michelle; and Kevin Cicen and his wife Christine; and four great-grandchildren, Avery and Andrew Houston; and Evelyn and Wesley Cicen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to John XXIII Home, 2250 Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, PA 16148.
