Clifford D. ‘Cliff’ Carlson

Avid golfer, gardener was insurance agent


- — Clifford D. “Cliff” Carlson of Hermitage passed away Friday evening (2-14-14) in the Greer House, New Castle. He was 93.

Mr. Carlson was born on Sept. 18, 1920, in New Castle to Ralph and Edith Roberts Carlson.

Clifford was an insurance agent for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co.

He served his country while being stationed in India as a member of the Air Force.

Mr. Carlson was an avid golfer, loved spending time in his garden and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, New Castle.

He married Mary Ellen Carlson, who preceded him in passing in December 1985. Mr. Carlson then married Mildred “Millie” Phillips Carlson on July 9, 1988. Millie survives.

Besides his wife, Mildred, Clifford is survived by: his daughter and son-in-law, Christine June Carlson Gallonio and her husband David Gallonio, New Castle; two sons and a daughter-in-law, William R. and DeeAnn Carlson, Hilton Head, S.C.; and Clifford John “Jack” Carlson, California; and seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in passing by his parents, three brothers and a sister.
