Mr. Goda was born Dec. 3, 1932, in Wheatland, the oldest of three children born to George Goda and Helen Chestnut Goda.

A lifelong Wheatland resident, he graduated in 1951 from Farrell High School.

John served in the Navy for two years during the Korean conflict on the U.S.S. Midway CVA 41.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Church in Sharon and a past member of St. Adalbert’s Parish in Farrell, where he married his loving wife, the former Ursula Kibash on Oct. 8, 1955.

He worked at the former Sawhill Tubular Products for 18 years and 16 years at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp., where he was a security guard in its plant protection department.

Through his lifetime, John was presented with many special awards, notably a Citizen’s Merit Award presented by Fraternal Order of Police Rose of Sharon Lodge 3 in 1979 for physical apprehension of suspected felons. He was also given a certificate for 50 years of membership in American Legion Post 299, Sharon.

In addition to Post 299, he belonged to the German Home and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, both Farrell.

John loved gardening, yard work and spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed vacations to the beach with his family, casino bus trips with his wife, polka dancing and watching Pittsburgh Steelers football.

He loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by: his wife, Ursula Goda, at home; his two daughters, Yvonne “Vonnie” Kostka and her companion Randy Wolanin, Farrell; and Deborah Golub and her husband Jeffrey, Wheatland; his son, Timothy Goda, York, Pa.; two granddaughters, Brianna and Hannah Golub; his brother, Robert Goda and his wife Audrey, Hermitage; his sister, Theresa Doyle and her husband Thomas, Wheatland; and 12 nieces and nephews.
